Your meme is simply not how Windows works, unless you intentionally choose to disable the security feature of UAC while leaving Windows Defender on. At that point you’ve accepted the risk that you could do something to break your shit.

You turned off warnings for all the shit you say Windows sleeps through, but left Windows Defender on which keeps the exe warnings. The only way to get Windows to work the way in this meme is if you configure it in this non-standard way.

Your willingness to poke around with computers will serve you well, especially in the modern age as people are less willing to do that, but don’t assume you know everything just because you know more than the people around you day to day.

All of those things require admin rights, which is an explicit acceptance that you are now working with things that could fuck your shit up. Modern Windows, unless you disable UAC, asks you to confirm you’re sure you want to use admin rights before you have the opportunity to break any of the shit you claim it’s chill about.

Running an exe doesn’t require admin rights, hence the extra warnings. Plus a malicious exe could do all that shit without asking for admin first through a privilege escalation exploit.

If all else fails, you can try using whatever the lastest community supported fork of Universal Android Debloater is. It uses ADB to remove bloatware, which bypasses vendor locks on keeping certain apps installed.

Obviously no real replacement for custom ROMs, but it’s better than nothing.

They replaced the original Edge with an Edge/Microsoft branded Chromium fork a few years ago, so it supports all addons Chrome does.

Small caveat:

The first switch emulator that was taken down (I think yuzu), was justified by Nintendo as copyright infringement because people (including moderators) were sharing copyrighted material openly on their public discord. BIOS files, links to games, and early leaks.

The more recent one (Ryujinx I think) was the one that did things right, so Nintendo didn’t have that copyright leg to stand on. So instead (according to the maintainer of the Mac fork) they sent goons to the house of the head dev in Brazil… to “talk” him into taking it down.

Even better: During the Wii era, the Wiis at the Nintendo Store in New York City ran official Nintendo made software to load games off a connected hard drive, so you could play multiple of their new releases without workers having to switch discs.

It has always been about attempts to prevent piracy and keep control over how people access their games for Nintendo, and they are roughly 10 years behind the curve on modern tech trends.

Either stop supporting them or get used to it.

On a legal level, it is how GOG works. They still only sell licenses. You just have the loophole that their installers and the games installed by them will work regardless.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a spritual sequel to Symphony, made by a good chunk of the people who made Symphony now that Konami has effectively stopped making games.

The Castlevania GBA and DS games are great as well.

I also really enjoyed Blaster Master Zero. It has a few distinct gameplay styles within the overarching metroidvania style overworld progression. Side scrolling platformer in a tank, on foot, and isometric on foot shooter.

The update that crashed things was an anti-malware definitions update, Crowdstrike offers no way to delay or stage them (they are downloaded automatically as soon as they are available), and there’s good reason for not wanting to delay definition updates as it leaves you vulnerable to known malware longer.

Friendly reminder that the original “loremaster” of Elder Scrolls left Bethesda before they released Elder Scrolls Online, and they replaced him with someone who has apparently been making pretty questionable decisions with ESO lore.

I mean, they always have the out of dragon breaks rewriting reality/making multiple conflicting timelines simultaneously canon (see the events of daggerfall as referenced in later games) to handwave away retcons, but overusing that just means that no lore actually matters.

Still hurts, but sometimes it’s the only option.

If you’re trying to confirm things like account existence/deletion, there’s often no “account exists” function to return true or false. You just have to figure out the specific exception thrown and catch that specific one.

The worst are libraries that don’t give specific exceptions, so you have to catch all exceptions then do extra work to tell what the specific situation is. Does the account not exist, or is the system unreachable?

What got me was the Triforce hunt. Nearly no guidance/signposting, constant trips back to tingle, then back to a warp point, then sail around, rinse repeat. Ugh.
